In a recent announcement, it has been revealed that the swearing-in ceremony of President-elect Dr. Mohamed Muizzu and Vice President-elect Hussain Mohammed Latheef is expected to carry a price tag of MVR 22.9 million. The parliamentary Communications Director, Hassan Ziyaau, confirmed that the contract for organizing this significant event was awarded to the Army Welfare Company (CIVEC).
While the precise breakdown of these expenditures has not yet been disclosed, it is evident that this will be a grand and meticulously planned occasion. More than 3,000 invitations are slated to be distributed for the ceremony, encompassing individuals from both international and domestic backgrounds. It's noteworthy that three heads of state are anticipated to attend this event, though the final confirmation is pending the completion of security arrangements.
Initially, it was stated that the ceremony would be a closed-door event with no public participation. However, there is a possibility that this decision might be reconsidered after the Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) assesses the security arrangements and ensures that the necessary preparations are in place. Any shift in the policy regarding public attendance will depend on the details shared with the parliament by the MNDF.
