The Maldives Embraces First Visitor of 2024 Amidst Tourism Triumphs and Future Endeavors

A jubilant atmosphere filled Velena International Airport today as the Maldives welcomed its inaugural tourist of 2024, marking a momentous occasion for the nation's thriving tourism industry. Benjamin Duncan Moore, hailing from the United Kingdom, embarked on his maiden journey to the Maldives, arriving on flight EY278 from Abu Dhabi. His leisurely escapade is set to unfold at the enchanting Villa Nautica, promising a memorable holiday experience.

The ceremonious welcome, orchestrated by the Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC), was a spectacle featuring officials from various sectors extending their warm greetings.


Representatives from the Ministry of Tourism, MMPRC, Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL), Maldives Immigration, Dhivehi Raajjeyge Gulhun Public Limited (Dhiraagu), and Crossroads Maldives joined forces to extend a gracious welcome to Benjamin.


Among the esteemed guests were the Honourable Ibrahim Faisal, Minister of Tourism, and other eminent personalities contributing to the grand reception.


In a gesture of hospitality, Benjamin, the esteemed first visitor of the year, was bestowed with generous offerings.


Crossroads Maldives presented him with an exclusive holiday package encompassing a luxurious stay at SAii Lagoon Maldives and the iconic Hard Rock Hotel Maldives.


Additionally, the Ministry of Tourism, MMPRC, MACL, Maldives Immigration, and Dhiraagu presented special tokens of appreciation to commemorate this auspicious moment.


Reflecting on the triumphs of the previous year, MMPRC highlighted their extensive efforts, conducting 402 diverse marketing campaigns that resonated globally, with a combined outreach touching an astounding 46,791,558,024. The Maldives soared to new heights by clinching the prestigious title of WTA's 'World's Leading Destination' for the fourth consecutive year, alongside MMPRC's acknowledgment as the 'World's Leading Tourist Board' for two consecutive years.


Notably, the Maldives was honored with the Global Tourism Resilience Award, acknowledging its resilience and strategic capacity in navigating disruptions within the tourism landscape.



Looking ahead to 2024, the Maldives tourism sector gears up for innovative approaches grounded in comprehensive research methodologies. Leveraging data-driven insights, MMPRC aims to optimize marketing strategies for the Maldives as a premier holiday destination.
