There are many. Listing Some of them here :

Dhirubhai Ambani was extremely good in his studies. He had a phenomenal memory and perspicacious intelligence. He was considered a child prodigy. But, he had to leave his education early on to support his family financially and join his elder brother in the gulf for a job as a petrol pump attendant.

He was very inquisitive from the beginning. He used to marvel at the scale of the oil refinery business of Shell in Aden. He used to ask questions and get an insight into such a huge business. He later became the owner of a big petrochemical business.

He used to read “ Glimpses of World history’ in his spare time in Aden. Such was his commitment and vision. Today, even graduates do not study these books.

He left his job in Aden the day he got promoted to the manager position. He wanted to come back to India and start his own business. He started as a roadside vendor in Pydhuni near Kalbadevi in Mumbai.

Dhirubhai believed in dreams and one of his famous taglines was “Growth is life” or later coined by the Reliance group as “Kar lo duniya mutthi mein”.

Mukesh Ambani graduated from UDCT ( now ICT) in Matunga, Mumbai as a chemical engineer. He was top-ranked in the 12th board exam. Topper was Ajay Parekh (of the Pidilite group). Manoj Modi, his trusted lieutenant was his classmate in UDCT.

Mukesh went to Stanford for MBA. He was asked by his father Dhirubhai to return back to India without completing his MBA. He had just completed one year of the two-year MBA program. Steve Balmer, earlier Microsoft CEO was his classmate at Stanford. Mukesh returned immediately to India to work on the Jamnagar refinery project. Incidentally, Steve Balmer also dropped out from Stanford MBA after completing their first year to join Microsoft. Today, both are multi-billionaire with no other graduate from Stanford to match their success and wealth. This shows that in business, timing is very important. Even one year can make a huge difference.

Mukesh is very fond of Hindi movies especially old Hindi movies. Even today, despite his busy schedule, he watches Hindi movies at home late at night after working hours along with Neeta.

His favorite restaurant was Madras Cafe in Matunga when he used to go to UDCT during his college days. This still continues to be his fav dine out and Idli is his fav food.

Dhirubhai and Kokilaben saw Neeta Ambani during her performance on stage in a classical dance program. When Dhirubhai called Neeta’s landline number, Neeta picked up the phone, thought it to be a prank call, and disconnected the line. Later, when her father picked up the phone, he said it was no other than Dhirubhai Ambani.

Neeta insisted Mukesh travel in double-decker BEST buses in Mumbai with her. Mukesh readily obliged. During their courtship, Mukesh proposed Neeta for marriage in the middle of the road during busy traffic. Neeta had to accept the proposal instantly. Of course, she never regretted her decision.

Neeta successfully runs Dhirubhai Ambani International School and Mumbai Indians IPL Cricket team in addition to contributing to many philanthropic activities of Reliance Foundation.

Anand Jain, a schoolmate of Mukesh Ambani and Chhaya Momaya (image consultant) advised Neeta Ambani on image change and social interactions.

Anand Jain once was known as the third son of Dhirubhai Ambani.

Other than Mukesh Ambani and Anil Ambani, Dhirubhai and Kokilaben have two daughters Nina Kothari and Deepti Salgaonkar. Also, Dhirubhai’s cousin Rasikbhai Meswani was a close confidant of Dhirubhai Ambani and now his sons Hetal and Nikhil Meswani are on the RIL board of directors. They are part of the family.

Everyone knows the brand name Vimal immortalized by the famous tagline “Only Vimal”. Who was Vimal? Vimal is the nephew of Dhirubhai Ambani. He is the son of Dhirubhai’s eldest brother.

It is rumored that Dhirubhai once said “Everything and everybody has a price tag”. Someone poisoned the ears of Ramnath Goenka, owner of India express this statement. He was offended by it. There was a long tussle between Dhirubhai and R.N. Goenka which is also depicted in the movie “Guru”.

Dhirubhai once advised media mogul Rupert Murdock, “ You have to meet not only the right people but also the wrong ones ”.

Anil Ambani has completed his MBA from Wharton school of management. It is said that when he returned from the USA after completing his MBA, he was looking forward to spending some time vacationing in India. After landing in Mumbai, he was taken straight to the Taj Mahal hotel to meet Dhirubhai Ambani who was attending a conference there. He touched the feet of Dhirubhai and expected that Dhirubhai will advise him to take a rest for few days after hard work during his MBA. Instead, Dhirubhai asked him to catch the afternoon flight to Jamnagar the same day to join Mukesh and work on the Jamnagar refinery project. The message was loud and clear that if you want to build a world-class refinery or an empire, there is no time to be complacent.

Mukesh says that he decided to invest in high-speed mobile broadband 4G network when his children complained of poor internet speed at home. Today, his telecom venture RJIO is the most successful telecom operator in India, and the RJIO network carries data traffic more than the combined data traffic of the top 5 US telecom operators.

Anil Ambani also ventured into politics. He became Rajya Sabha MP with support from the Samajwadi Party and his then friend Amar Singh.
